I noticed this at Amazon. A $15 controlled outlet strip. The cheapest things advertised as tool controlled outlets all start at $30-50.

It has 7 outlets. One designated as a control outlet, you can plug in a device. It has a adjustment for triggering threshold of 16-60 watts.
Two outlets always powered on
four outlets that come on when there is a device in the control outlet that is turned on and running over the threshold current.
As a bonus it also has a surge suppressor.
I looked everywhere on the Amazon site and internet and it says 15 A but does not say what the limit is for the switched outlets. whether than can be up to 15 A and whether they can take the surge of inductive motor loads.
Its intended for computer and AV use... your computer to the control outlet and the speaker, monitors, modems all in the switched outlets to save power while off, but all controlled by your computer use and not multiple switches. Or a TV and Cable box or other set top boxes.
But provided it can handle the load it also sounds like it can be used with a power tool in the control outlet and a shop vac in the switched outlet.
Don't know if it has a delay on turn off so as to clear the vac hose of dust like most tool controlled outlets intended for Vacs.
Given Amazon's return policy, it could easily be tested and returned if it did not work as planned.
However, I am pretty certain it would work with my relay booster box as is.
Since this is under $15 and the nearest tool controlled outlets are $30 and up, it would seem like worth testing if you were in the market. Here is one the tool-controlled outlets:
