    Bosch 1617 Power Switch Problem

The other day I was struck by the dreaded Bosch 1617EVS power switch problem (I think). I went to use the router, and when I flicked the power switch--nothing. It worked fine when I used it the week before. I've read that the switch can become contaminated with dust, causing it to stop functioning. Many people solve the problem by blowing it out with compressed air, but that didn't work for me. Of course, the router is 2 months out of warranty.

So I e-mail Bosch customer service and explain the problem. Without blinking an eye, they offer to send me a replacement switch free of charge. Not only that, but they are apparently working on a new switch design to help prevent the problem. As soon as the new switch is available, they're sending me that one, too. Kudos to Bosch.

Now my question. It looks like the case on the motor is held in place by 2 torx screws. Anyone know what size torx driver is necessary so I can open it up to replace the switch?

    Thanks,
    Bryan

In a pinch you can use a small straight screwdriver, most screws have slots too. Either t-10,t-15,t-20 I would guess.

I constantly blow out the re600,pc7529 switches b/c of table use.

Unless they changed the design since mine, its held on with (deeply recessed) phillips head screws.

It’s Saturday night and my 1617 router died again. Last time, it took the local repair station 4 weeks to replace the switch, I decided to see how difficult it is to replace the switch. It's not that hard. Just need a Torx-15 driver to remove the cap and the cord strain relief.

The switch is a MR25 Series rocker switch. Here's a picture of it:

Anyone know of an online supplier for these so I can keep a few switches on hand for replacements?

Mine always seems to die on a Saturday night or Sunday.

        Thanks,
        Andy

I got lucky when it hit mine. I was one month short and had it fixed. I'm on
borrowed time now so it's good to hear Bosch may send me a free switch.

I have never ordered from this place, Toolparts direct, but it may be of interest. --- Steve

Ihad the problem after the warranty expired. I picked up a replacement switch from a local dealer and changed it. I opened the bad switch and cleaned it out. It tested out fine, so I kept it for a back up.

How did you open up the switch? Did you remove the rocker side or the connector side?

                  Thanks,

And yes it's Saturday.... A switch failure stops more than just the router...

I'd have to look at the switch again to answer that...
