Great Old Book, The Stanley Plane by Alvin Sellens

Picked up this book at my local library:

    http://www.amazon.com/The-Stanley-Pl.../dp/0961206802

Very interesting history of Stanley and a tremendous reference on all the planes Stanley built, at least until 1975 when this book was published. I know next to nothing about planes, so this book is very informative and fascinating.

I bought this book years ago. Great reference material for Stanley planes and one of the few places to find good info when I was trying to date my 45.

Pretty good online reference can be found at: http://www.supertool.com/StanleyBG/stan0a.html

I've used the info here many times.

While on vacation we hit up some antique malls down in the DFW area. I was really disappointed there weren't any tools booths but I did come across this Stanley No 80 scraper plane in one booth. I remembered this thread and followed the link to the online reference but there wasn't much info to help me date it. I just wanted it but didn't think it was a great value at $34.95. However, when he rang me up, it was $24.50--it was 30% off. That was a nice surprise since I saw people saying they had payed as little as $10 for one. eBay was selling them for $40+.

Any help in dating would be much appreciated. The japaning is in pretty decent condition except for a few spots. Unfortunately no blade was included. I did a bunch of googling at the store but couldn't find anything. I think I see the numbers "349" stamped into the left handle in the top picture.
