    Paid Too Much

Was planning to buy the HF 7" polisher when it was 50% ($39.99) off during March.

    http://www.harborfreight.com/7-inch-...her-66615.html

The deadline passed and it was now at 49.99. Still a price I can live with but before heading to San Antonio on Saturday I printed out a 20% off coupon that would have brought it back down within pennies of the previous price.

Halfway to SA I realized I had left the coupon on the kitchen counter. Since I had an exchange to take care of I stopped by HF anyway. Looking at the polisher I found that, like a lot of HF items, there were 2 item numbers. Only 1 shows up on a site search. The power unit was the same in both boxes but one of the boxes contained the power unit and handle...nothing else. the other one also contains the hook and loop backing pad and 1 foam pad. Since they had 1 of the complete kits and 3 of the other, I decided to eat the extra $10 rather than chance the complete kit not being available in the Austin store where I usually go.

I have the older version of that, without the digital read out. Used it with a glass polishing kit which worked to take scratches out of a window (don't ask how that happened)

I must admit, This is the first I have ever read about someone saying they paid too much at Harbor Freight! For what you got, the price still seems pretty fair...

I never gave much thought to polishers / buffers. I have one, a very basic Ryobi 6", I think I have used it 3 times, once on a wood project, and twice on my truck...

Looking at the results from a search on Home Depot for "polisher" and what a range! The humble Ryobi goes for $29.99 to $209.00 for the Makita 7" version of the polisher you got!

The reviews on that one are, well... hit or miss. A suggestion is to flog the snot out of it, NOW, if it holds up through a couple of weeks of hard use it should hold up long term...

I just bought a polishing pad for my ROS. The ideal of a separate polisher is nice, but I don't think I'd use it nearly often enough to make it worth it. Then again, the polisher pad was $15 or so, so that's a good portion of the HF dedicated unit...

Let us know how it works.

I've got one here that I have had for years and used it only a few times. I used it with rubbing compound on my old Chevy truck after it was painted. It did a good job though.
I don't even recall what brand it is. Maybe no name. It's a red one.
