    Jet Bandsaw Repair ??'s

Anyone ever have to replace the "Hinge" on a 14" Delta Bandsaw? The "Hinge" supports the upper spindle shaft that the upper wheel turns on. The hinge appears to be made from cast aluminum and has developed a crack, which in turn is making blade tracking adjustment impossible, and worse, the upper wheel is now striking the triangular hinge. According to some research on the internet, this is not an uncommon problem, as some faulty parts got into production at one time.

Anyway, some online Jet parts suppliers show that the "Hinge" is no longer available as a separate part. and you now have to replace the entire "Sliding
Bracket" assembly. I can live with that if I have to, but can't see how the Sliding Bracket is removed.

Sorry this is so 'machine specific', but you'll know what I'm talking about if you have this saw, which I understand is a copy of the Delta 14" bandsaw.

    Any thoughts?? Thanks.

    Jet Band Saw

OK- Got it figured out (with help from tech service folks)

I ordered the part from the distributor/manufacturer. Unfortunately, they no longer supply only the actual part that's broken - you now have to buy the entire 'Sliding Bracket Assembly' which includes the 'Hinge' (which is really the only broken part). So the cost was ~$70 vs $10-15. But that's OK, the saw (now 19 years old) is worth much more than that. Also spoke to a tech guy, and he told me how to remove the siding bracket, and I did while I had him on the phone. So when the replacement part arrives I should be good to go!!

The attached photos better indicate the problem

I'm wondering if anyone in your area could have welded that up for you for less?

In fact, I thought about having the piece welded. But by the time I found someone that could weld aluminum, and get the angle perfect, I decided to just go ahead and replace the whole thing. I also think there might have been something wrong with the original design of the piece, as well as using aluminum for a high stress piece (??). Apparently others have the exact same issue with this saw part.

I'm going to start releasing the blade tension after I'm finished using the saw. I know you're supposed to do this, but I never did

Bummer. Well keep it as a spare in case you run across someone that can do it at a reasonable price. Many hobbyist tig/mig weld at a high skill level, you never know!

This spart broke on my AMT saw. It is a copy of the copy of the delta 14" saw.

I got the grizzly part and it fit fine.

All of their parts are on-line. They were cheap too.

              good luck.
