    What ARE these things?

A dear friend passed away a few weeks ago, and I've been helping his daughter get rid of his stuff. Among his toolchest items were these things. They are stainless steel, and have "TOUCH 'N' HOLD" stamped on the 'outside'.

There are four of them, and they are labeled 1/4, 3/8, 5/16 and 11/32. There is a green 'O-ring' in the 'eye' of each one, and it appears they are rubber, although they look to be age-hardened. The other end appears to be sized to fit over a fingertip, but that may not be the case.

I've looked all over the 'Net, and I haven't had any luck finding any mention of these. The only thing that shows up is a type of door closer. I was thinking they may be fishing tackle-related, but no joy there, either.

Anyone have an idea what these are?

Try a google search for " touch n hold fingertip wrench " ...they look pretty cool but I don't know how well they would work.

"TOUCH 'N' HOLD" makes door closing systems.

My wild guess ---- this measures the piston for the door closing system.

The measurements appear to correspond to the size of the green "O" rings - rather than the clips.

Could they be for holding a nut while tightening a bolt. I have some made of metal that are similar to that.

Haven't you ever heard the term, "Finger Tight"?

I really haven't more than a dumb guess, but they look like a finger tip wrench of sorts. (Really... is there such a thing?)

Perhaps as mentioned by Phrog, they are for holding a nut while you tighten the mating screw.

I don't have my Lee Valley catalog here, but they do carry a few different fingertip nut/bolt holders. Made of plastic, silicon or rubber as I recall--your set may be a pre-cursor. Just a wild guess...

There are times when those would come in handy. Maybe not for tightening a nut, but for holding it to get the bolt started.

Yeah, I think they are meant to start them. The image linked on this page

                    http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedi...r-tip-wrenches

appears to be the original packaging which shows how it is meant to be used.

Another neat tool that I didn't even know I needed yet. I can't think of the times that I have wrapped a finger with double sided tape (commonly known as personell tape after the 2 faced characters working in the personell dept) to hold a tiny nut on my finger while I was stuck under the dashboard of a stinky old British car with my feet sticking straight up. Any idea how the nut was held in place in the tool or what the green o ring was for?

P S--I mentioned earlier that I didn't have my Lee Valley catalog at home, never even thought about the online version. I like their paper catalog!!
