    Ridgid R4511 recall.

This looks like a nasty one.

    http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml09/09311.html

I had seen reports of arbor shaft failures on these saws, but never seen a recall on them. If I am posting what everyone knows, please forgive my lateness... This is a 3 year old recall after all... But if you have one of these saws and don't have the recall done on it, you might want to...

None of those saws to my knowledge other than a few ever made it to the checkout line and were taken care of by Ridgid immediately. I have one and have been using it thoroughly for yrs, kinda like raisng a stink about something this late in the game makes no sense as this had been hashed out over the past 3 yrs repeatedly by the lesser informed. But thanks for posting for those individuals who only read the funny papers

I usually catch, and post woodworking related recalls, and honestly, I don't remember doing this one, I bumped into yesterday and figured if somebody fell through the cracks, this would help...

I don't recall hearing about it either. I have heard about arbors going out, but didn't recall a specific saw. Something like this is ALWAYS good to know. Thanks for posting.

If you have any type of ridgid tool and go to their website in the woodworking section it has been clearly marked as a sticky since late 2009, http://www.ridgid.com/Download/R4511_PR.pdf , https://www.ridgidforum.com/forum/t27600/ , easy to miss if your not into woodworking tools and have never had a Ridgid tool before I guess.Funny how the 6th one down in 2009 seems to indicate someone here most explicitly new about it.

Okay, I'll bite. I was just on their web site. I couldn't find the woodworking tools section at all any more. At the very least it's not very user friendly...

Sorry if I offended anyone by posting this. It was meant to help notify folks that might have missed it before...

              Most of us appreciate

you posting that recall. Some of us just don't spend the time we should checking on recalls.

And others read this forum to find out things they were not aware of.
Oh, the link doesn't work, BTW.

Re: R4511 Table Saw Recall Notice

I got the news from somebody else few minutes ago (Lee Styron). Amazing coincidence. For the first time, I just inserted my freud stacked dado set yesterday. I could not get it to lower to ¼” inch for some reason and it was getting late and I thought I will continue to look at it on Sunday. Right on time.

One of the many things I have learned about humans is that they (we) all are distracted (or highly focused) at any given moment from hearing or reading of an "important news" announcement. As a pastor, things in the bulletin and from verbal announcements are "missed" by the majority (as are sermons.)

For me, I finally have learned when preparing to order from a company for the first time - to do a search specifically for "complaints against" that company BEFORE ordering. When I get a seemingly direct "email" ad or note from a company, I check the "ad or news phrase" in Google to see if it is legit or not. The vast majority of people do not. This personal habit has saved me and has reduced "arguments" between LOML and me about what is legit versus phishing/scams. (She tends to believe anything in print, especially in her email.)

The truth is, very very few people do this kind of checking and those of us that DO, don't get brownie points for saying I told you so. We do get brownie points by offering it up regularly, and being the one that people come to ask because we are in the know.

                      Thanks for the updates.

After teaching for 10 years, I shouldn't be surprised by this, but it happens all the time. One of my most common complaints is, "You didn't say that would be on the test." Needless to say, I said it would be the test at least twice a class for a week beforehand. Amazing what people don't notice.

A recent PM had an article on this very phenomenon; we're buried in recall notices, all with equal urgency, and so we miss the truly urgent notices.

Man, I wish I had a perfect memory.
I do recall emailing the guys that had ordered stuff for the R4511 now just to make them aware if they weren't. As I mentioned, I did remember something about arbors, but not the saw model. Both me forgetting the details and the fact that these saws do get resold support the reason why threads like this are of value.
I deal with hundreds of different saw models and remembering something like this about one particular saw is hit and miss for me. If I am not mistaken, the original information about this recall came from a link on this forum. I could be remembering that poorly too.
The search features are notoriously difficult, which makes searching awkward at best.

This is easily remedied with Google. On the Google search page, enter the terms you want to search on here followed with +site:bt3central.com and you will get to search this site with the power of Google. It works for all sites indexed by google, and is great for v bulletin sites (and other forums) that have limited site search capabilities.

Sorry to go off topic, but I thought this deserves mention.
