I don't know much about bandsaws, especially the older equipment. That looks cool, but I'm not sure I'd spend $300 on it. Adapting some of the newer guides, fences etc. might be difficult.

The HF 14" is on sale right now for $359.

Personally, I'd wait for something else to come along.

To be honest, I don't know much about "antique" band saws, including this make. I'd have several questions about this saw in particular.

First, with any older saw, parts availability can be problematic. I bought a Ridgid bandsaw a few months ago (for $150, IIRC), and many parts appear identical or compatible with Jet, Grizzly, and HF. While these clones aren't state of the art, the Ridgid more than meets my needs as new to band sawing.

Second, on this saw there are a lot of open moving parts- no back to the frame, open motor cabinet, etc. It looks like a dust collection nightmare- saw dust everywhere, not to mention a wood scrap (or, God forbid, a body part) getting caught in a belt or wheel.

Third, unless you are interested in collecting "antique" power tools as part of your hobby, you can get a newer saw for the same or less money. It's true that "they don't build them like they used to", which may or may not be a good thing. See the recent discussion on this site re: an old B&D router-sounds like it's built like the proverbial brick outhouse, but it lacks features such as soft start, variable speed, and precise depth control.

      Just my $ .02

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.
