ridgid shop vac hose adapter accessory vt1755

i've had this set for about a year now, and am continually impressed with how effective the components are in aiding my shop vac dust collection and clean up activities:

    http://www.homedepot.com/buy/ridgid-...it-264657.html

it's especially useful in adapting 2.5" shop vac hoses to hand held dust generating power tools. at a cost of under $10, there are times i'd have gladly paid twice that amount to be able to make the necessary attachments. it's been especially useful in connecting my plate joiner, ROS, router table and belt sander to my shop vacuum system. just hopefully passing along some info on a fairly useful shop vac accessory.
there's a solution to every problem.......you just have to be willing to find it.

I agree. I picked one of these up a couple of years ago and it's come in handy several times. Well worth the cost.

Thanks toolguy, I passed them by the other day at the BORG but wasn't sure if they would fit my shopvac and shelved the idea for a later day.

Anybody have information about the smaller diameter hoses for sanders, circular saws, etc.? Is there a standard or are they manufacturer specific?

Thanks for the tip and for your opinion on this. Hose fittings from one size to another has been one of my pet peeves. I have ordered half a dozen over the past year and getting them to match hoses, fittings and tools has been a pain.

I will give these a try for sure.

No standard. Some have square to round adapters (seen with some sanders), and some are metric (I think Bosch is something like 30mm in several cases) while others are SAE in sizing. Generally you can get close and use tape to adapt.

Hoses and fittings are totally frustrating for sizing.
I wish the stores would spec the fittings for every end
with ID, OD, and indicate taper or straight.

or better yet have some sort of uniform codes indicating whether the hose ends are for landing hoses of a certain ID size, and for the other ends how they fit inside or outside of other fittings.

I've got a few sheets of rigid foam insulation that i use to make "bushings" from. I lay a piece on solid surface and use the fitting i'm filling to press cut, then do the same with the hose in the center which pushes outward enough to make a tight fit. Not a perfect seal, but pretty good, fast and i got 'em for the right price...free.
