I love the smell of old iron in the morning

Well, Thats Sat morning, Been workin a deal on this all week and its finally come to fruition , http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/tls/2834841121.html , and finally negotiated the price to what we both could agree on,Chris the gent who has it for sale is 75 yrs old and finally going into a retirement community. I have wanted one of these for yrs as Dad had one when we lived in the Carolina's yrs ago and it was absolutely the best planer I had ever used hands down. So 1st I had to get rid of a few things. So a few months back I posted a deal here on the Bosch drill/impact drivers sets at Lowes for $39 and I purchased 2 sets, 1 was a display. I traded just the 1 Bosch Drill driver for this RS1000 which I sold the other day for $250, and today sold another deal I had posted here a while back the Hitachi disc/sander bought at Lowes for $50 for $125 and the guy also bought an old PC100 router I had layin around for another $50 that I p/u at a yardsale for $10. Out of pocket cash for this fine ole Iron Planer that will prolly outlast me will be about $15 including a tank of gas. Can't wait to get her back home and run some boards thru it.Only bad thing is the setup for the blades which can be a pita but Chris swears its only been used about 5 times since he bought it new 38 yrs ago and it looks it to me,He's also throwing in 2 rollers as well Guess I'll see on Sat ,pics to come,

Wow, Tommy, you are like the Gordon Gecko of tools!! That planer looks like its still new, the paint even looks shiny from the pic and no rust on the posts.... amazing for its age. Sounds like Chris new how to take care of his tools.
I think in straight lines, but dream in curves

Yup, He had a nice collection of ole iron, I was fortunate enough to find him before he posted on the ATL CL, Instead he was posting in the NWGA CL and man if I'd only had another grand, a sweet DJ15 that looked better than this and a UNI as well, my dream saw, but it sold before I got to this. I'm fortunate to have snatched this up at that price. I see these occasionally and they still go for $6-800 all the time, but I'll see when I get up there, bout a 2 hr drive for me into the hills.I'll take some pics for ya'll of the mountains while I'm out

WHAT!!!! with the LSA and all,LOL Kinda like folks that would pay $150 for a $49.03 OSS, A lot of folks like that R.A.S. it was actually pretty decent, a little runout say maybe 1/32 at then end of a 12 inch cut, bout the same as most of the craftsmans out there which I see a ton for sale here anywhere from $50 to $300, but not as nice as my old DeWalt

That's tempting. I still think I'm going to upgrade to one of the Dewalts later this year.

with no intention of hijacking this thread, the HD that so generously provided this moring's BS purchase was also clearancing the 4330 replacement blades for ~$10 (previously $30). i'll try to add the yellow tag pic i took sometime tomorrow.
