I'd go back and get one on sale someday. It's one of those things that once it's there- you'll find uses for it.

I bet I use mine once a month now. Mostly for repair uses. Stuff like my drywall saw, sawzall etc don't see much use at all anymore.

I finally had a need to buy one of these last weekend and with the $18.99 HF coupon, it made it much easier to decide. I debated whether I should get the variable speed model, but the single speed did the job just fine.

I just had to make a plunge cut in some exterior house trim that was in a delicate spot. Using the stock blade worked fine. I didn't get the cut exactly straight across but nothing some wood filler and paint couldn't hide. I'm not sure how I would have made this cut without this tool. I do have a Japanese saw that can start in the middle of a board, but it wouldn't have been nearly as fast or fun.

Bosch as well as other companys make an adapter to fit their blades to the HF tool, I use their blades when using mine and ocassionally they go on sale or you can get a local Lowes or HD to honor the 20% off coupon making the Bosch blades much more reasonable price wise and they seem to be of better quality than the HF as far as longevity goes.Just my 2 cents

That's good to know. I haven't worn out any HF blades yet.

They were giving them away for free in 2010 and I recall posting a link here back then and a lot of folks got the free(then) adapter as well as a blade with it. Its no longer available for free but works well with my HF tool.

I got a small assortment of blades with my Craftsman. I'm wondering what's a good brand of blades to go with in consideration of cost.

I've seen a set of Bosch blades (three pack?) on deep clearance at Lowe's, but they're still north of $25.
I have a little blog about my shop

If by "good" you mean the variable speed model, it is at: http://www.harborfreight.com/variabl...ool-67537.html

I've got the cheapo single speed model and like it quite a lot. It is item number 68303.

I 'did the math' and bought the variable speed model because it came with more blades that made up for the extra cost. Also the case is offered on the more expensive model.

Depending when you buy, you may find the VS is a better deal and offers slightly more flexibility with the speed option.
