LOL, a poll i paced here a few years back indicated that BT3central members who answered the poll had an average of 2.8 routers per respondent.
I guess routers are comparatively cheap compared to other tools and the major cost is in the bits and tables and other supporting router stuff.

I have the Milwaukee 5625, due to the heavydutytools black friday a few years ago. But when Freud was having the blowout on the FT2200 (if I remember the model correctly), it was comparable to the Hitachi at a better price. I picked up two, one for my father and one for my neighbor (who watched my house when I needed it). Both have been happy with them.
Now, I also think looking out for used is a good way to go. I picked up another 5625 off of Ebay with the symptoms of a bad control module. It was $30, and I was looking at the description of what happened, and I reread my owners manual and got lucky. The previous owner had basically force feed it, and it has circuitry to slow it to a shutdown. The reset involves removing the bit and shutting it off, and when I pulled it out of the packing, there was no bit and the power had been shut off. It has worked fine since.
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

Good news/ good news and question

Good news is that I have been able to bypass the switch and get the router working. I use my bt3k switch to power the router anyway so it being wired switch-less is not an issue. I always unplug when changing bits, etc. Other good news is that I can now take my time in replacing my router.

Question: Anyone have experience with the Triton (TRA001) and 3.5" panel raising bits? Is there plenty of clearance through the base?

Forgive my newbie status, but does "plugged in" and "unplugged" count as variable speed??

I have that one and use the Sommerfeld panel raisers. You DO have to make the opening larger in the triton, but that's easy to due with a flushtrim bit in your router table using the largest table insert.

The 3.5 horses on the Triton are a pleasure to work with.
