I have the same problem, got this planer second hand and now have no way of setting the knives. Did you guys get them set ok by using the cardboard cutout?

I would say the springs are too strong for any cardboard.
Using cardboard to make the templete did not work, so
I used the back of a note tablet. But I did take the above
picture and added detailed measurements to help.
I would think 1/8" or 1/4" hardboard would do the job.
The knife sits about 3/32 (If I recall correctly) above the cutter head.Comment

knife gage
I made one out of wood but I am sure that having one would be better than home-made. I have not changed the knives so do not know if mine is accurate or not.
How much do you want for it? Could you mail it to me?

Just an update on an old thread...
The Mini Planer Pal does NOT work with the Delta 22-540 Type 2 12" planer. Got a set, tried them out. Followed instructions carefully, set the little plastic pin inside and against the edge of the gib slot. The magnet that is supposed to contact the blade just barely touches it. I can see why the planer pals are a good design, but it resulted in a knife height that is obviously too high (though VERY even!). Tried it anyway, got a lot of kick back and end chipping even when carefully inserting the wood, and it looked like it wanted to take off 1/8" or more in one pass if the cutter is lowered to the point the rollers engage.
...Felt like I should post this despite the age of the thread, as this forum and page comes up on three different search engines anytime you search for this model number.
