    Delta 22-540 Type 2 Planer

I bought a used planer and found that the knife gage is missing.
Do you have a planer like this? What I need is the gage so I can replace the knifes. Could you make a template of the gage? From the template I can make the the gage.
I really need your help PLEASE.

Looks like the guage is no longer available online, but you might try looking at this thing on Amazon (or elsewhere) "Woodstock W1226 Mini-Planer Pal". It sounds like it might do the job for you

      Jim is right....

      Mini Planer Pal

Or, I have a couple of the original blade installers for my Delta 22-580 and PC planer. They look exactly the same to me.

Does the 22-540 have to be set or is it set up like most of them and you just set the holes in the blades down on the mounting studs then put the cover clamp over them?

I have the 22-560 but have yet to change the blades and should, but haven't because I bought used as well and no blade change tool. Isn't there a way to change the knives without the setup tool and still maintain accuracy? I have an annoying nick in one knife (or both?) right in the center and often get a slight ridge in pieces...

I don't know about the 22-540, but my 22-560 has self-aligning (non-adjustable) blades: holes in blades fit onto pins on the rotor. I don't have the blade removal tool, which seems to be just a magnet on a handle, and not necessary at all. The blades are easy to replace- just be careful not to cut yourself on the knife edge.

I own the 22-540! The blades are spring loaded in the head. The knife gage is used to push blades down while you tighten the set screws. The thickness gage on the machine is set to this height. So gages for other machines may be different. ScBob

              Hey SCBob,
Could you make a template of cardboard or pressboard of one end of the gage so I can make a gage? I have new knifes but could not found one for sell on the internet. Sears says that it is 'backordered' and would not tell me when it would be availabe. I'll pay for the postage.

Same here. I have the Delta 540 and I don't ever remember seeing a blade setter gauge in mine. I have a set of blades and it sure needs changing. Something I need to do by summer time.

I would appreciate what ever you have.

                    Thanks

Lee, you got mail. It's no problem making 2 copies.

And you will need to know the diameter of the cutting head. Bob

Lee, those planers don't need to be set. There are indexing holes on the vlades and they only go in in one position.

The blades for Delta 22-540 Type 1 and Type 2 (TP-300) have no holes in them.
There are 4 lifter springs in the cutterhead to raise the knife.

This gage is arched at the bottom to set on the cutterhead.
The middle one's radius is a little larger for the blade's height.
