I don't own many Veritas tools, but I've never beed disappointed in any that I own. Worth the price everytime.

Looks like a handy little tool. For $50, I would think about making one.

Not exactly a new concept. Uses pins instead of wheels. I have the regular Veritas marking gauge and absolutely love it.

I think it was Phil Thien that had a comment about them a few years ago, when they "introduced" and tried to patent an old (previously made) item.

However, that isn't their biggest marking gauge.

I like the cutting wheel/knife of the veritas gauges. I have the standard one too, non-graduated. It is very well made.

I also have a couple pin type gauges I picked up for a song from HF when they were closing out their wood planes. Both have two pins on one side with a threaded rod to adkust the width and a single pin on the other. They work nicely, but the pins can create rough markings. They are extremely similar to these from Rockler, but mine were ~$5.

I read somewhere to take a file to the pins on a marking gauge & flatten one side to create more of a cutting edge. I don't know how well that works in reality, though.
