I've decided to purchase a 3M 7500 series respirator and wanted to ask those of you that use one for a recommendation on the best filter to use. I want to filter out fine sawdust and am not sure if I'll need it for anything else (maybe finishing/staining fumes?). I have read reviews of people using either the 2091 P100 or 2097 P100 filters for dust filtration and was not sure which one to get.

I have the 2091 P100s, which work with both my 7500 series, and the 6200 series (my old one) respirators...
The 2097s are supposedly good for vapor, but I have heard bad things about them in regards to vapor filtration, if I need both particulate and vapor (rare, but possible) I have an adaptor for my regular vapor cartridges that allow me to mount up the 2091s...
I guess its just that I am used to seeing activated carbon used for vapor...
FWIW, the 7500 series respirator is a real winner. I liked my 6200, but the down firing exhaust of the 7500 is a HUGE improvement! Please like and subscribe to my YouTube channel. Please check out and subscribe to my Workshop Blog. -
Thank you. I also just found an old post of yours with the list of filters and cartridges you purchased with it: http://www.bt3central.com/showpost.p...80&postcount=8.
If the 2097s are not getting good reviews I'll stay away from them too.RitaComment

Marc at the Woodwhisperer does a good video on this. I followed his set up.
I just bought the 7503 and got both an Organic vapor cartridge (fumes) and P100 particulate filter. Plus the adapter to connect both. If you're just sanding you could just use the P100 which makes the mask much lighter. I also like the fact that it vents the air down and doesn't fog up your safety goggles.
