Router Table Top

In the process of designing a router table. Still getting ideas but I was going to build the top but I have found this table http://www.thewoodworkingsource.com/...odpecker).html. It is pretty close to the size and design I was thinking of. Just wondering if it would be better to buy this top and then build the cabinet to match or stick with building the top also. I have a Jessem Router Lift that should fit the opening, at least the measurements match on paper.

Considering that you can build a router table top for less than $50 why would you want to spend $150? To me it comes down to saving $100 bucks or so. Also do a search here for router table. There are several designs users here have done themselves. Even ones that will fit the rails of a BT3xxx and Cman 21829 and can double as a side table for wide sheet support just like the crappy router table they all came with. The T-track is available from Rockler.

that's a nice, large area ( 27" x 42", I think it also comes in 36 and 53" lengths for the smaller or largest Incra jigs) router table designed for use with the Incra router fence positioning system jog for making precision dovetails and other neat items as well as precision fence positioning.

If you need such a table it can save a lot of work and look great. Just depends on your resources, time and DIY quotient.

I recently got the Jessem router lift and it does fit the woodpecker standard opening, although the woodpecker plates have spring loaded pressure balls to take up any front-back play. I need to do something to make the Jessem plate fit the same way.

I'd personally go with a sheet or two of phenolic-faced ply, some hardwood on the edges for under $50, but that's just me.
