I have not used it in a while. Is this a problem? Is there a fix?
Thanks in advance!

its either a sure sign of a serious problem or the drill has just had sex. Either way I'm not sure I'd use the drill anymore.

What does the smoke smell like? Could it just be dust burning off?
How much smoke? Did it do it briefly and stop, or is it still smoking?
Unfortunately, it probably is a symptom of a problem. I wouldn't use the drill until it is fixed.

Yep, sounds like the magic smoke got out.
