    +1 to that.

+1 also on repairing your JET. If it's just the motor - you'll probably be way better off fixing it rather than buying a replacement HF jointer of questionable quality/flatness/usability.

Additionally, you won't be throwing away a probably perfect jointer carcase, which is environmentally responsible.

I've got a 2004 Jet JJ-6OS - and I love it. 3/4 HP TEFC motor. Replaced the stock belt with link-belt, runs like a charm. It's time to sharpen the blades though - lots of lumber has been run through it.

look at it this way....fate did you a favor when it killed the jet. take the $200 and put it towards a more reliable tool. if you can find one, the ridgid 6" jointer was rated a best buy in the '09 wood magazine test of jointers. and with ridgid's lifetime sevice agreement, future repair costs are a non-issue.
there's a solution to every problem.......you just have to be willing to find it.

I inquired about rebuild, but the pricing was more than the motor would be new. When I opened it up there was burnt insulation around the primary windings. New motor seems to be the way to go. Thanks for the link belt suggestion, I had forgotten about that!

          Thanks all.

            jointer advice

I have that same jointer, just used it tonight still works great...no problem.
I have had it for 2 years, after initial setup, I leave the fence locked down
at 90 deg. to the bed and start using it. I tell everyone who is thinking about
buying this machine to buy one of HF's welder's magnets (shaped like an arrowhead)...about $5, makes setting the fence on 90 deg. a snap!

I know several guys with that HF 6" jointer and it is considered one of HFs gems. Having said that, for the same money, you COULD get a replacement motor from Grizzly and have a better jointer.... I would replace the motor on the JET unless the machine is trashed...
