    Used Shark Guard value?

I am wanting to take Lee up on his discount offer, but I already have an earlier model SG with the 2" dust port. I have a member that is offering to buy my existing SG, and I honestly have no idea what a fair price for him (or me) would be...

What would a fair price for a used early Shark Guard be?

The general rule of thumb for used equipment is 50% of the new price. That figure can be adjusted upwards or downwards depending on the condition of the individual piece. For me personally, because of the lack of warranty and no return policy, I'd never pay more than 60% of the value of a new item when buying used and the item would have to be pristine for me to pay that.

I'd think that at least $50 would be a fair price. There is still a pretty good demand for them. It might depend on the condition and the type of clamp that it has.

I wish I could figure out what version it is... I used to know how to look it up on Lee's site. Basically speaking, it is the one that locks in with simple pin holes, not slots. The pins interlock through the riving knife to hold it all together by the bolts.

The guard itself has a painted aluminum tail and is not the fully polycarbonate piece. I somewhat like this arrangement better as I feel the metal would wear better as it cycles through its action.

It is off the saw right now. (I remove it when I want to keep the blade below the table) but the riving knife is installed. I will have to snap some pics soon and let you guys know...

As far as condition is concerned, it is all there, just typical paint wear, but otherwise completely straight, no cracks or anything.

If 50%-ish of new is reasonable, I would think that at $126.00 + S&H for new, then what, say $65.00 + S&H?

From what I've seen on Lee's site sounds like it is from the middle versions. I still think $50 would be a good starting point.

Sorry Guys. Been out of pocket helping my Mom finish up a move to Alabama from Ok.

Here is a link to the version history on the site.
            http://www.leestyron.com/history.php

Of the few guards that I have seen go used, they were all at least 50% I think. Some went a little higher especially those that had splitters instead of a RK.

I did have many guys wanting the aluminum tailed guards after I phased them out. They were in pretty good demand for awhile.
I won't be making anymore like those, so just maybe about 1000 to 1200 will ever exist. Likely half that for any given model number.

I do know they sell okay on Ebay as well, but if you have a buyer, then your starting price is totally reasonable.

Thanks for the link Lee. My current SG is, from what I can tell from your history page, a version 4.0.
