anybody know for sure what this means?

the data plate on my sears radial 100 RAS, model 113.29401, has one more unidentified "code" on it: J63. the code appears in a box on the data plate below and to the left of the model number. anyone know for sure what that code represents?
there's a solution to every problem.......you just have to be willing to find it.

I don't know for sure, but if nobody else does either, I've got a good guess. Stay tuned...

OK, since nobody else chimed in, I'll put my guess in the pot...

I'm betting it's a date of manufacture... The "J" could stand for the 10th month, so it may be indicating October, 1963. Seems pretty close to being the right era for that particular saw model. I've dealt with many pieces of equipment over the years where the date codes were done in that fashion...

You might be right about the year of manufacture but considering it's a Sears product, the "J" probably means Made in Japan and the 63 the year of mfg. Today everything is Made in China, in the 60's it was Made in Japan.

on some plates there are printed numbers and stamped numbers.
For example the model number might be printed because every units made has the same model number but the serial number is different-unique for every unit made so its is stamped or at least looks like it was done separately.

A date code wold be the same all week but change weekly...
So as a hint, does it look like a unique number or a mass printed number?
Often with production items there are design changes made by ECO or ECN during the production history and those are denoted with revision numbers and letters. Sometimes they may be marked on the unit to help determine te correct replacement parts. For very complex and novel items with long production history many changes can be made (I've actually seen double letters) but for most commercial items revisions seldom go above C or D; J would be a lot.
