When I was a kid living in Rochester, NY, a house was being built next door. There was a lot of grading and tree removal and dirt piles. I was wandering around the dirt piles one day and saw a large piece of flint lying on the ground. I picked it up and showed it to my parents. My father thought it was no ordinary piece of flint so we took it to the Rochester Museum on East Avenue in the city. They kept it for a while and finally called and said it was an Indian hide scraper used to scrape the meat off the flesh side of hides. They offered to buy it. I said no. I still have this scraper. It could be several hundred years old.
