    8" Saw Blades

I recently acquired two machines that use 8" Saw Blades.
    They are
    1. Shop Smith
    2. Safety Cut Panel Saw

Both companies offer saw blades for sale, but they are expensive, so I want to know what are some good sources with reasonable prices for this size in blades of various types/no.teeth?

Also I have seen Saw Blades labeled 8"-8 1/4" and wonder what that means?
    Will they fit safely?

if the they will fit the arbor, you can always use standard 7 1/4" blades.

Being that there's only 1/8" difference in the cut depth and the radius, for all practical purposes aren't they the same?

Any blade that will fit the arbor and clear the opening should be fine. Amazon has a decent selection of 8" range blades.

Sears had/has the Freud Avanti line, that I had on a circular saw and my dad had on his old miter saw. They won't be around much longer due to Freud getting rid of the Avanti name. The Diablo's are good, inexpensive blades (better then the borg, non affiliated, Avanti China made blades). I know on some Makita's, people have been able to fit an 8 1/2" blade, and not all 8 1/4" blades are truly 8 1/4". So yours SHOULD be able to fit, but they won't always. (could be design to more common, guard damage)

            ShopSmith arbor

ShopSmith arbors are larger than standard...I forget the diameter, but it's a hook to ensure you buy blades from ShopSmith. I found some modifications using copper tubing as a spacer for standard blades but it never worked SAFELY.

ShopSmith's are expensive...both to buy and to maintain. As a drill press and lathe, it's a good space saver. As a table saw, it's dangerous...unless you're only crafting small jewlery boxes.

My 2 happiest days owning a ShopSmith...the day I bought it and the day I sold it!

The Grizzly Outlet store appears to carry the Oldham Signature Woodworkers II Series of blades in 8" sizes. These are very nice blades. Highly rated by Fine Woodworking magazine a while ago.

This version is for a table saw.

Another is for a miter saw.

              http://www.grizzly.com/products/8-x-...bo-Blade/H9354

Another is a finer tooth blade for a radial arm saw.

I would call Grizzly to verify sizes before you order as the pictures show different sizes.

If you want top of the line there is always the forrest woodworker II blades.

Just Saw blades has the Systimatic combination blade in an 8" size.

ShopSmith sells an adapter that allows the use of standard blades.
