Slick looking. Of course the price is guranteed to be over $300, but hopefully they'll dump their "old" models now.

Maybe I mis read something, but if it gets the on off to the different bases by a low voltage strip to the on off switch, how would you put the motor into a lift? That was a huge factor for me in picking my router and would have eliminated Bosch for me. And thats a real bummer, because I went with Bosch.
Awww forget trying to fix it!!!! Lets just drink beer

I can only imagine that they will provide an in the table lift solution, possibly with additional safety features.

Sadly this would mean replacing current lifts with Bosch versions.

I don't know about the router but the review is ridiculous. Half of the review is about switch on the fixed base being on the handle - big deal. My 10-year-old Craftsman fixed base router has switch on the handle, nothing new about it. Craftsman router also has LED lights, not a new feature either. There is no mention in review about table use, about above table height adjustment or bit changing.

There is also no mention about accesories and features. Does the router have any dust collection capabilities for instance? Craftsman routers do, Bosch older routers had accesories for it.

They did mention that motor is 15 Amps. This will be the first multi-base kit with such power that I know of. I also wonder how much the router weighs. All existing kits are 12 Amps or less to keep weight down. My Hitachi M12V is a 15-Amp router and I don't want to use it outside of the table. The reviewer, ofcourse, forgot to mention such little detail as weight.
I don't know how good of a job Bosch engineers did but the reviewer certainly gets an "F" for inadequate job.

I just noticed one more detail - motor is 15 Amps but "low voltage". That makes me wonder how powerful router is. And what kind of power supply does it need? Somehow I doubt its a regular power cord that plugs into those bases.

I agree as a review it would have been lacking, but I think they did refer to it as a 'sneak peek', so I don't really find any fault there.

What is mentioned though does directly address some of the very few complaints about the 1617.
The clear bases, an easier to get to switch and the move away from the wood handles all indicate that they have been paying attention to consumers, which can only be a good thing.

The way I read it, the connection for the switch, and by definition, the switch itself, would be the low voltage parts.

While the review was lacking, they could have also restricted what he was allowed to report, just to try to get some early feedback.

the motor control was low voltage, not the motor itself.
If you noticed the picture the router had a "Marketing Sample" label, I don't think it was a functional model so the review was very limited.
And the reviewer showed a great deal of ignorance of former Bosch models when he said you don't have to turn the motor to change the elevation - all the Bosch 1600 series (like the 1617) routers had the straight line vertical elevation feature.
