    Why I love Craigs List

This has been a good month for Craigs List Fishing.

I saw a Panel Saw listed:
    It's a Safety Speed Cut H4.
New at Woodcraft + $2199.99 not counting their excess weight charge of $125.00

    See it here-
    http://www.woodcraft.com/Product/206...-Crosscut.aspx

Same Brand that my Home Depot uses!

    It was listed at $400.00.
I went 75 miles to see it. Not bad.
    Offered $350.00 Accepted !!!
For an additional $50, he delivered it the 75 miles and helped me bring it into my shop. With gas prices and time spent each way, 150 miles round trip and 3 hrs time, it was worth the extra $50.00.
At a total of $400.00 it was a little over 18% of cost new.

You realize you suck, right? I've often drooled over those saws at the local Borgs.

Might have been the same saw

"Passed on a nice panel saw on CL this week myself ($400)... I just have no room anywhere to set it up"

          We're both in Fla.
There were 2 when I searched 'bout 2 weeks ago.
Actually mine wasn't $400, I forgot that was the other one with wood horizontals. Mine was listed at $550, but I got it down to $350 then added $50 for delivery.

Room wise you just need 10' by about 2'. If you use a good tard it could even be outside leaning against the shop or other bld. with the tarp over it under the overhang.
I just got this delivered today to help move the sheets around to the P Saw

You do suck indeed. I'd love to own one too. Although the best setup I've ever seen for handling panels is my ex-BIL's father's. He is a sign maker - makes real estate signs. He has a PM 66 surrounded by about an acre of the tables with the steel balls so he can move a panel in any direction. Oddly enough he doesn't do anything else with the saw except cut down MDO into signs.

Yours was probably the one in Pasco Co. Mine was in Melbourne, and only up for one day. The tarp idea won't work for me, as my two outside options are the covered porch (LOML has declared that area off-limits) and the front of the house (prohibited by HOA covenants), so I gotta stay in my 3-car man-cave...

Two demerits for your post, Pappy. I will give you three attaboys though for highlighting the last word.

If you get good with a panel saw, you won't need much if any outfeed tables on your table saw. Perhaps just a fold down flap type every once in a while. That may help make room for one of these.
                      Great snag BTW.

                        To Uncle Cracker

I got mine from Florahome, Fl.
                        It was advertised at $550.
The seller is on 55 Acres and also refurbishes and sells used Golf Carts.
I saw several pallets stacked about 5' high full of batteries and shrink wrapped in clear plastic.

I called the company that makes the Panel Saw. The guy was very nice and immediately e-mailed me the owners manual and a parts list. He said all parts were available for mine and there were accessories including a Router Carriage system for it (Torsion Boxes- Yeah). They have been in business for over 50 yrs.

See how the horizontals are metal?
                            It's all metal.
Mine is that way, welded at the factory.
The other one that I had seen had wooden horizontals.

Safety Speed Cut C & H-Series Vertical Panel Saws
The Router Retrofit Kit will upgrade your C or H-Series Safety Speed Cut Vertical Panel
Saw into a combination saw and router production workhorse. This conversion will give
you incredible flexibility allowing you to saw and rout on one machine. Once the kit is
installed, it actually takes less than 1 minute to switch between the saw and router.
The router can be used for dadoing and v-grooving applications on wood panels and
various composite materials including ACM panels.
This upgrade includes everything you need to complete the conversion. The conversion
can be accomplished in about 4 hours, using normal shop tools.
                              The retrofit package includes:
                              • Interchangeable Saw/Router Carriage
                              • Quick-Change Saw Motor Mounting Platform
                              • Quick-Change Router Platform

Optional Accessories (Recommended companions for Retrofit Kit)
                              • Dust Kit-Allows you to easily hook up your machine to an existing collector or dust collection
system. Efficiently removes dust and debris from your workplace.
                              • Midway Fence-Brings your small panel work to waist height eliminating back fatigue while
                              cutting quantities of small panels.
*This conversion can be made on all H-Series and C4 panel saws built since 1980.
Models manufactured prior to 1994 may require extra components.

Here is an email about the router kit-

                              Hi Robert,

We have made Vertical Panel Saws for over fifty years, and many of the oldest models are still in service and supported with parts. The 1991 unit that you are considering is a “current” model, although the motor may not have been upgraded. If it has the original Milwaukee 2 ½ HP motor with a D handle and trigger switch, like a carpenter uses on a job site, that motor is no longer available. The newer ones have an upgraded Milwaukee motor that is available as a kit to fit your saw.

                              The manual online is current.

A router retrofit kit is available. It entails replacing the entire carriage assembly so that you can change quickly from saw to router and back while maintaining squareness. I have attached the literature about it.

A couple things that you may want to check on a used machine:

Does the carriage move smoothly from top to bottom? If not, either the carriage or the guide tubes may be bent.

Does the motor run well? The retrofit kit is $597.03.

If you have any other questions please let me know.

                              Regards,

                              Burt Buchen
