Heard of a 15" Grizzly BS?

    Local CL : http://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/tls/1462365217.html

    "$200 : GrizzlyBand Saw Model # G1148 Heavy-Duty 15"Brand new never used mint condition"

I can see tech specs on this page : http://www.allwoodwork.com/storeitem...to_17_inch.htm

but I can't find any reviews. Sight unseen, could this be a good machine?

I'll try and check it out today. What I really need to know is its dimensions : dunno if I can make space for a huge machine. Any guess on its footprint (and total height)?

Grizzlytools.com has the manual and parts lists on line:

    http://cdn0.grizzly.com/manuals/g1148_m.pdf

    http://cdn0.grizzly.com/partslists/g1148_pl.pdf

website lists a number of blades available apparently 103"

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

      Thanks for the links Loring.

Found one review, and he seemed to love it way back in 2004.

so 103" is an odd size?

Only in that 102" and 104" are even sizes.

Never let the length of a blade stop you. Better quality blades are made to order and inexpensive enough to have a couple of spares on hand.

true enough. its not a commonly available off the shelf size but its not hard to get as bandsw blades are very frequently made in custom sizes. THe raw blades are in long strips they are cut to length and then welded, any blade shop can do it basically for free for placing the order.

curiously the manual did not list size or weight or any specs, but i don't think it would be much larger than other 14" saws - with a 103" band it would probably have more resaw height than a stock 14" delta-clone (which is 6" with 14" wheels and a 93.5" blade) but less than 12". Nice looking sheet-metal (Rikon style) (as opposed to Delta cast iron) BS.

            Rad,
Looks like the CL ad was deleted... Does this mean it was too good to pass up and is now sitting in your shop?

BTW, I'm betting the resaw height on that is at least 9 inches. I think the Rikon-style Craftsman 14" (similar in appearance to these) had 8" resaw.

Sorry Bill, didn't get to this yesterday.

Yes, you can safely surmise that ! More in this other thread.
