    Q about backfilling the handwheel...

Loring's FAQ says that some folks are filling the empty void in the handwheel with 2 part epoxy and bb's. My question is this... The 2 part epoxy I am familiar with is a putty, sort of like JB-Weld...

I know there is another kind that sets up like a clear plastic and is kind of liquid when you mix it, but I can't remember what it is called. A little brain refresher here would be nice. Can you guys identify the product I am trying to talk about?

FWIW, I want to back fill the hand wheel on my AP1301 planer to keep it from blowing out again, as well as on my BT3100.

could you use that resin that is intended for fiberglass installations, since it looks pretty simple to mix and pour?

I guess my local box stores only have the putty stuff...

Maybe Ace Hardware will have it...

I think you are looking in the wrong isle. Epoxy is an adhesive, aka glue. I'd be utterly shocked if the box stores do not have it.

            two part epoxy...

Ace hardware, HD, Lowes, and Menards have it. It comes in a twin syringe package. Get the slow set or "2-ton" variety. HD used to sell an epoxy product that was packaged in two quart cans, but I have not seen it in the last couple of years. I use a couple of drops of acetone to thin the mix so it flows into the voids easier and extends the open time. Also, pour from one side of the cavity to be filled so the epoxy will flow down and across the void to push out the air between the shot. This will prevent any trapped air and make for a stronger fill. Make double sure there are no joints or gaps in the cavity to be filled as the epoxy will simply run out no matter how small the gap is. I used plain old window glazing putty to seal some gaps. It will then pull away after the epoxy sets.
