You can't take that kind of stuff personally. It may be you or it may be them, but as long as the transactions go through okay and warranties are upheld, the outcome is the same. Albeit without that good friendship kind of a feel. Some of my suppliers that have never met me bend over backwards to keep my business. Others not so much. It's the same thing in person. Some care, some care less.
To me, the outcome is the priority. The hot coffee and c.h.i.t. chat are at best secondary.

Is it just one guy who treats you like a number? If so, has he been there for a long time? Some salesmen just don't have people skills, but they don't usually last. If they all treat you the same way, it might be a reflection of management. If so, I'd be looking elsewhere too.

you need to evaluate why you shop there. Good prices? Good selection? Convenience? Carries your favorite tool brands? DIsplay of product for hands on?

If you really don't like the store, don't shop there, but if you've been going for 20 years, there must be a reason other than the service/friendliness and if you stop going you're giving that reason up.

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

Sounds like you need to escalate your complaint to the store manager's boss at the next higher level of management, like a district office or something.

I try to keep good relations with the suppliers I deal with. With the in-office personnel, to make sure they know exactly what I'm ordering, even if I'm using product numbers.

A good relationship with the outside sales reps that visit the shop regularly, can mean the difference of pricing specials and free giveaways.

With their delivery personnel, they usually pick the stock and care for it one way or another until it's delivered. It could mean getting better sheet or lumber stock.

Having a disagreement or a misunderstanding after years of a business relationship severing that was once amicable, needs to be worked out. Little differences may not be what they seem. Like that saying: "It takes two to Tango".

In some similar cases I've called ahead and asked what days a particular salesperson works. I can use that information to frequent the shop when the guy/gal is gone.

Sometimes, the problem isn't the salesman.
