    Do You Oil Your Tool?

    Sorry, left out "air". Air tools should be oiled daily before use, especially ones that haven't been used in a while. One of those bottles with the flip lever dispenser puts out drops easily. It's cheap maintenance.

    I do. At first I was worried that I would over-oil the gun and get spatters all over my projects but that hasn't been a problem.

      I was about to come back with some sarcastic remark, but since you corrected yourself...

      I don't have a compressor presently (one of the remaining things on my list), but I do periodically oil the tools I have and hook them to a friends compressor and run them.

      I have a 20 year old Blue Point AP500-C long hammer 1/2" impact wrench, and a 15 year old Blue Point air ratchet, die grinder, and Ingersoll Rand air hammer.

      I got more years of professional shop service out of my tools than I did my back that's for sure!

      Nailers and such would be prone to getting a drop of oil at the end of every used day with me. Most of them that I am aware of exhaust the air out of the back of the housing away from the work piece so no contamination worries.

        Yep. Got one of those bottles sitting next to the compressor.

          I have an auto oiler on the line that is used for mechanic tools or any tool that has an air motor. It does put out enough oil that they do tend to blow a little out the exhaust ports but not enough to cause a mess.

          My nail guns etc. get oiled each session of use with a couple drops, I have never had any spots on my projects.

            I also keep all of my air tools oiled unless they are specifically oilless like a couple of my nail guns are. Oil can actually do more harm then good in those.

                      Wise or not, I went with oil less (Bostitch). The sales guy at HD actually told me they don't last as long as the oiled units. But I don't use them much and they sure seem to hold up fine. I also got a Bostitch compressor on sale at Menards which I like A LOT. It is small and easy to carry, and it isn't very noisy. It was made in Italy, though, so it looks kinda funny.

                        I oil the tools, not the air. Using in-line oilers is fine for an auto shop, but not if you'll ever have a spray gun on that line. Oil in your paint or finish (or on your unfinished wood if you blow chips away) is not a good thing.

                          I have 3 or 4 yellow hoses that I use with my nailers when doing a big job. I have an oiler on those hoses. I have 2 blue hoses I use exclusively in the shop,etc that never had oil in them. If I use a nailer in the shop I put a drop or 2 directly into the nailgun.

                          Yellow = caution

                            How many days before I use it do I have to oil it?
