    Dust Masks

I hate those little white cheapie dust masks, I am not sure they are all that effective because they don't seal at all. I am putting the insulation back in the ceiling. I have a good mask that is the canister type but it is overkill for this - heavy, somewhat impaired vision and gives me cottonmouth. The vision problem is not good when I am climbing up and down ladders. Does anyone have any experience with something in between? It doesn't have to be chemical rated, it just has to seal better than the cheap ones.

The white paper type filters with the bendable nose tabs are junk. They don't seal. You'd be better off with a particulate respirator, which doesn't have to be vapor rated, or better yet, use a chemical respirator with the cartridge filters.

Maybe a little more than what you're looking for, but i like my 3M 7500 series respirator. Good fit/seal and fairly comfortable. You can get just dust filters or various chemical/vapor filters. No endorsement of the site, but here is a link to one: http://www.envirosafetyproducts.com/...-Assembly.html.

I use a 3M 7500 series as well. Great seal, particular cartridges work well, and no visibility issues. I especially like the downward firing exhale valve, keeps my glasses / safety glasses from fogging up.

That 3M one is more what I am looking for. I have the big one with the replaceable cartridges that is chemical rated but wanted something smaller and lighter.

I use the one charlie posted. It works great but fits differently than you'll be used to. It'll feel like it's too small but it actually seals well that way.

Just remember; no mask is worth the money if you have facial hair thicker than a credit card.

I use one of these for most dust related activities, except drywall.

These are what we use at work. Way more protection that you need at home, but very confortable to wear. I am in mine about 6 hrs a day and have few complaints.

Every time this topic comes up, I have to mention that I love my Resp-O-Rator. It has HEPA filters 99.97% effective at 0.3 microns, seals with a beard, doesn't fog glasses and has a comfortable stand-by position.
