    New (to me) Craftsman jointer

Well, I got all the grease cleaned off of it, mounted it back to the base and set the motor back up. It seemed to be running like a charm. Then I ran my first board through. I knew the knives were not terribly sharp but when the dog leg guard came back after the piece cleared WHAM!!! It was apparently bent just a touch and when it returned it made contact with the knives so now I definitely need new ones. I almost needed a change of underwear also......

Is there a better resource for these knives than Sears Parts Direct? I have to order some other bits and pieces from them anyway but I would rather have a local source. Is this something Rockler or Woodcraft might carry? What do I need to get to set the knives? While I have used other people's jointers this is the first one of my own so I have never changed blades.

Has anyone built their own stand for an older jointer? This one is on the original sheet metal stand so there is no dust collection. That HAS to be taken care of pretty soon. In the small amount of time I used it the pile of shavings it produced decided that for me..... I am thinking just a simple box roughly the size of the jointer with an opening cut in the top that is a little bit smaller than the outline for the belt and dust collection.

I almost forgot, the model number is 113.206932. As always, any sage-like advice is welcome.

you'll have to measure the old knives - length, width and height. And hole location is important, too.

I was able to find some knives with identical sizing to fit my delta jointer except 1/32" in one dimension at Holbren's, I think they are infinity.

Amazon also carries knives and identify them by size. You may need to check with the manufacturer of the blades as to what models they are intended to fit.
Freud and Infinity are two brands.

I think I have the same jointer. I have to seel it actually since I replaced it with a jet closed stand model. At a glance the blades look the same as the jet whic are stocked at Rockler (at least the store in MI) You could always take a blade out and compare it to the jet or Delta. You might also want to consider sears since they also used to sell a chip collector bag that went under the jointer. Since a jointer produces shavings rather than dust, I found that the bad worked pretty well for me.

Thanks Gary but since Loring mentioned Holbren and he frequents this forum and is a supporter I just ordered some through him. As far as the dust collection, I don't like the idea of a bag. I have a dust collector so I may as well use it, ya know? As soon as I make it over to the hardwoods supplier to pick up a sheet of Birch plywood I will get it taken care of for sure.

Hey John, Glad your using Brian, He,s a great guy. If they do not work try these guys as well. I got the Freud blades for my smaller King-Seeley jointer from them and they work and fit fine.http://routerbitworld.com/Planer-Joi...ide-s/1457.htm
