    BT3K OEM blade restoration?

The dead BT3000 I picked up earlier this week came fitted with an OEM blade, unfortunately it is rusty. Can anyone recommend a way to clean it up and protect it? I'd like to clean and sharpen this blade for my BT3100.

WD-40 and brass wool around the carbide. OK to use steel wire brush elsewhere.

Evaporust is very highly recommended as a rust remover for handplanes, so it should also work for blades. I used Krud Kutter for rust as an alternative when I couldn't find Evaporust. Many phosporic acid compounds should work, though they may cause some discoloration overall.
