    I agree with you, and that’s why I usually order online for new tools.
    For all the orders I have placed in the past and recently with LV the shipping has been around $12. They usually ship from NY and I live in South FL, and so far their online customer service has been very good. Once I even sent an email to Mr. Lee Leonard (the founder), and he had responded me in a short period: that was very appreciative. I really like their products, I know the planes I have from them with good care my son will use it one day when he becomes an adult, and still will remain for future grandchildren.

      seems like all the stores are having periodic free shipping... including Rockler, Woodcraft and Lee Valley. I think LV had one such promotion recently. get on their mailing list and they may offer it again soon.
