    Sharpening services

from time to time the question arises what price for sharpening.
A new price list came out at my local hardware, I think all the hardware stores send to this service because the card is the same, they just change the name of the store at the bottom. weekly pickup.

Anyway here's the prices for tool sharpening. I find it unusual that they charge different for ATB vs FTG or TCG teeth...
also they charge more for 1/2" shank router bits than 1/4" shank router bits, assuming the 1/2" bits are bigger I suppose, but if possible I buy all my bits in 1/2" shanks now regardless of the bit dimensions.
OTOH, I've never had router bits sharpened.

If the attachment is too small to read, you can probably click on it for a full size version.

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

At those prices, I'd get good saw blades resharpened. For the router bits I use, new ones are usually cheaper, especially if they're on sale.

I found it peculiar that they charge 66% more to sharpen a ½" shafted router bit than they do to sharpen a ¼" shafted router bit. Wouldn't the business end of say a ¼" roundover bit be identical on both sized shafts?

The last time I had a blade sharpened I noticed a rather large increase in the price over the time before that. Looking at your sheet, IIRC, it looks like your service charges less than the one here.

yes, so did i. Like i said i only buy 1/2" shanked bits when available, so it puts me at a disadvantage.

Price seems to have gone up from a flat $.33 per tooth when i last looked.

I didn't use them for the last two blades - sent them to Forrest.
