    table saw deal

how's this for a table saw deal. i 'm wandering through a HD adn i spy a 3650 in an original box, but battered up a bit. talk to a store manager and he agrees to sell it to me for $100, as it's missing the rail kit (box 2). now, i know ridgid will send me the missing box gratis, so i buy the saw and other stuff to get the total over $299 so i can use a 10% off coupon and get 12 mos. no interest financing. so my net cost for the saw is $90!

i do the transaction as a "will call", to give me time to get one of my trucks to get the stuff home. when i return to the store, the saw is no where to be found. apparently, the label they are supposed to affix to "will call" sale items was either not placed on the item or removed by someone who purchased the saw while i was getting a truck. manager says he will call around and, if one can be found, wherever it is, he will have it shipped to his store for me. he asks me to wait while he searches, as his store system shows -2 in stock.

i go wandering and what do i see, sitting smack in the middle of the tool corral, but a brand new, in the box, factory shrink wrapped, 3660 sitting on a flat bed cart. so i wheel it to the manager, who says he's not having any luck findidng one and it looks like a refund is the best he can do. i show him the 3660 and he is reluctant to use it to fill the transaction. but, as the skus of the two tools were the same, after some discussion, he had to agree.

so out the door i go with a brand new 3660 for a net cost of $90.
there's a solution to every problem.......you just have to be willing to find it.

Nice. I don't do much woodworking or work around the house/yard, etc., but when I do, I certainly don't mind using HD, just for that reason. I've read a lot of negative posts about them over the years, generally complaining about employee knowledge. But, I tend to think of them more as "salesmen and parts locators" than knowledgeable workers.

I don't recall of really ever having a bad experience there. And I have returned a few items, although not a whole lot.

I've been as guilty of bashing HD as many others have but in this case HD stepped up and took care of the customer. Kudos to them for making it more than right for you.

Exactly right. I've had managers give me things for 20% of their value either because the couldn't do the math to figure out the real discount or couldn't be bothered. Great for me, not so great for the company.
