    Craftsman Dust Collector deal?

The local used/refurbished/no-box Craftsman store here has the 1-1/2 HP Pro Dust Collector for $199, marked down another 25% to $150 'cause it's been there since October. Would this be a decent deal for what it is?

Yes it would provided that you change the 30 micron bag for a 1 micron bag.

Cool beans. Will probably pick it up, then.

I don't see a one-micron bag for it, just down to five-micron. Is there perhaps another source for this?

There are other suppliers but here's one, Penn State. Type - 1 micron bag - into the Search Box.

I checked out the Penn State site but there was a lot text cut off right about the point where the bag listings should be describing what units they will fit, and no dimensions I could find.

Looking around, I found some shaker felt bags with the right dimensions here: http://www.highlandwoodworking.com/i...OD&ProdID=2182

Based on the Q & A on their web site, this seems like a good deal and I think cheaper than the Penn State items. Has anyone out there used the Highland Woodworking felt bags and have an opinion?

That is a better price than the Penn State bags. I have a 5 micron felt bag on my DC that once it got a layer of sawdust built up on its insides probably reduced that number by quite a bit, probably down to the 1 - 1½ micron area.. I guess what I'm saying is that the felt bag has worked out just fine for me.

I'd certainly shoot for 1 or 2 micron instead of 5 micron.

you might try grizzly for finer bags.
For the most part, the 1.5 to 2 hp DCs all have 20" rings, the filter bags, catch bags and canisters are more or less interchangeable from that standpoint. if the bag from Maker A fits maker A's 1.5 HP DC, it will likely fit Maker B's 1.5 to 2 HP DC.

No experience with the bags from Highland, but the company itself is a class outfit. I've ordered from there several times.

That said, the price of two of those fine-particle bags would make a pretty good down payment on a cartridge conversion kit from Wynn Environmental. Just another way to go that you might want to consider.
