I think the home made fences are just fine and really cost effective. This is mine - Very simple and if I destroy something on it - I can rebuild it as very little to no cost.

I ran that either with just a shop vac and the floor sweep or with the HF DC using the shiop vac hose to a 4" adaptor on one inlet and the 4" hose wedged in between the M12V and the BT case to catch chips going down through the router table.Early on I wasted money on a really nice router table that I rarely use except to gather junk. If I have a big project I'll make use of it, but simpler is usually better.
Most often I use a spare accessory table I bought for my 21829. I use the brackets from the Ryobi two piece fence, but mount them to a piece of ply or mdf. I attach to the rip fence and I have a sacrificial fence.
If I didn't have those brackets already, I'd probably go with the slotted 2by method shown.

Same setup on the DC side as this, just move the hoses over.
