    Ryobi Sliding Compound Miter Saw

Just noticed a Ryobi 10" sliding compound miter saw at HD for the first time for $199. Does anyone have any experience with this saw?

I hadn't noticed that before. Sounds like a new tool to me... But I could be wrong.

I just looked at a 2007 Ryobi ppower tool catalog. The only miter saws listed are a 12" and two 10", one with a laser. No slider.

I also saw them at THD the other day. I thought the price was $179.

Neither HD, nor Ryobi list them on their web sites. But that is no surprise, I first heard of the BTS-16 table saw here as well... It really does look like a new item that just hasn't hit the web yet. I would like to see an objective review of this tool. I honestly would love to see a budget oriented ACCURATE SCMS. I have been pretty happy with Ryobi tools aside from the BTS-21, and even that is a good saw for what it is...

Others elsewhere have recently reported Ryobi sliders, only to later report that they were not sliders but non-sliders.

Are you sure it was a slider?

Yes, the one I saw was definitely a slider.

Ryobi does have a SCMS. Home Depot Canada has had that model for a while now (at least 6 months)! It is a single bevel, 13 amp, 10 inch with laser and is selling for $199 (Canadian). Here is the link to Home Depot Canada. I have seen it but have not tried it.

Just was one at the local cube in NJ, didn't have time to play with it though.

Our BORG had one in a box, no price nearby, and no display to play with. Can anyone confirm the US price? I'm suspicious of the $179 and even $199 quotes above since they had non-sliders in that range by Ryobi...

Went to the BORG last night, learned 2 things.

                        1. New Ryobi slider was there, 199$ was the price, seems to be single bevel, very odd combo there, I suppose they need to do something to keep the other saws relevant.

                        2. Oak ply was 55$ a sheet, certainly there is no reason what-so-ever to buy plywood from the BORG now, as the lumber yard has it for 59$ a sheet, and MUCH better ply.

I saw this saw in the East Liberty (Pittsburgh) Home Depot today. It has a laser built in, 13 amp direct drive motor, single bevel for $199. The action was as smooth as most other sliders I have looked at. In true BORG fashion, the saw was not set up correctly with parts hanging loose and disconnected.

Hmm, wasn't considering upgrading my CMS (also a Ryobi) but this one sounds tempting. Maybe next time the BORG has a %-off sale of some kind... I've always wished my 10" CMS was a slider, but back when I got it, the sliders were pretty new and $$$$... That said my current Ryobi has been very accurate and dependable over the 7-ish years I've had it. I did add an on-blade laser to it at some point...
