I feel the power of the Dark Side!

I just picked up (as in still in the back of the Suburban) an older Jet 3hp single phase cabinet saw, complete with extension tables, Exacta fence and the longest fence rails I've ever seen. The scale on the rail goes out to 50", but there's at least that much on the left side of the rail. They fit in my 'Burb, but went from the back door all the way to the dash.

There's a little surface rust on the cast iron--nothing that a little judicious scrubbing won't take care of, and I need to buy a miter gauge. Other than that, the saw is in very good condition, and it was FREE!!!

Well, free to me at least. #1 son worked it off in a scene shop over the summer. I was happy to let him, and Scene Shop Manager Girl was happy to get it out of her shop (replaced by a tricked-out SawStop.)

I wonder if there's a Shark Guard for this model??

Nice get! With that much table space, you'll have room to build in a nice router table, and could even build your old BT in for use as a dedicated dado machine! Frankensaw! Lotsa options...

Yeah, he's a good guy. We fronted him almost $800 for his trip to Russia this summer, so he only owes us half that now. I guess that makes the cost of the saw around $400.

I may have to cut down the fence rails to fit it in my shop. OTOH, maybe I could eBay the fence and use the proceeds for a shorter assembly.

OTOOH, my shop is at the end of a wide flat driveway, so if I install lights and align the saw table correctly, I could probably land a 747. I live near the airport--might be fun!

Thanks for all the suggestions--I still haven't taken the thing out of the 'Burb. It's already 90° here and gonna get hotter. Sons #1 and #2 just got out of bed, so we'll wait until nightfall to move the heavy sucker.

Sorry, no. She's a Cum Laude Wash U grad, and already told me I was welcome to come and admire the SawStop, maybe even rip some stock for her, but ain't no way it was going home with me.
