    ribbed and link belts

I am replacing the belt on my bandsaw (G0555) which is ribbed. Does anyone know if a link belt can replace a ribbed belt? Will the ribs on the pulleys destroy the link belt? (Grizzly recommends the ribbed belt).

    Thank you,
    Scott

If by ribbed your talking about a serpentine belt then no, a link belt can not replace a ribbed belt unless you also replace the pulleys. Actually, a serpentine belt acts much the same as a link belt when it comes to retaining memory and dampening vibrations.

i think link belts are only meant to replace V-belts.
Any other use will give you TROUBLE.

I'm kind of curious as to why you're going to replace the belt on the BS? Those ribbed serpentine style belts are pretty good, and are actually more aerodynamic than the link belts so they make less wind noise.

Thanks all, thats kinda what I was thinking.

Dustmight- if you see my prior post I am trouble shooting a sound. No objections to the belt style.
