    Plumb bobs

I need to put up a couple of doors and was thinking about getting a plumb bob. I've seen Tommy from TOH use one these for quite some time. I have a plumb bob but it's only one with a string and no casing. The things I hate about it is it takes FOREVER to settle and the cord gets messy and frayed. I've heard these type settle much faster and since it's in a box I assume its winds up. Has anyone used on of these? I'm sure I could use a level but.. hey it's an excuse to get a new tool Btw, is there an advantage between using this as opposed to a level

I've read that is the level to have. I hangs door with a level, what is your plan with the plumb bob?.

Well as I understand it you tack the bob on the jam (hinge-side). When perfectly plumb the distance between the end of the box (the part touching the jam) and the string will be a set amount (I believe 2" for this particular model). That same distance should be the same through out the length of the string. If it's not you adjust the jamb to make it so.

Btw this model was $26 yesterday. I know because it was one of the many items I saved in my cart and changed just today. Not a huge discount, but hey.

Sounds interesting. But, I've hung a lot of doors, and only used a level. I do have a plum bob like this, it's about $5. Maybe my next door I'll try a plumb bob.

That's the same exact one I currently have.

It's a little Risque to post here, but do a Google Search for a "Plumb Barbara". I own one. I got the thing about 14 years ago when I worked at Ace Hardware. It came in a shipment of new items to stock and I HAD to buy it... Might not be super accurate, but sure is nice to look at!
