I have a chance to buy a Dewalt Model 733 planer for $200.00. Amazon.com reviews look pretty good, but I'm looking for some input from folks on here. Any experience?

I guess it depends on what condition its in. Does it come with any spare blades? Go take a look and get the seller to show it operating, look at the surface it produces and check for a nicks in the knives. Also check if it includes a dust collector hood, you dont really want to operate without one as TPs kick out a heck of a lot of chips and dust.

Not sure where you are but here in phx there are allways loads of planers on CL. You can usually pick one up for around $150. Theres a DW733 on there now including new blades, dust collector and a rolling cart for $175.

DW733, that's not the current model but its always gotten top notch reviews.
Heavy sucker, tho, but not as heavy as their current models (734 and 735)

Got one and it performs virtually snipe-free.

I've had the 733 for about 3 or 4 years. Works beautifully. No snipe unless I don't support long boards right. My only complaint is with the height gauge, as it's very small to read. New blades are not that expensive as I remember. Mine came with an extra set, but I had looked up what they cost before I bought it.
As stated before, the dust hood is a must.

The newer ones use a two speed approach. Haven't used one with two speeds, but haven't felt the need for using one either. The single speed seems to work fine for my purposes.
