anyone watch Norm tonight

He has more tools I've never even heard of than I have tools.

He used a hand-held OSS, and a 40" long belt sander where the long side of the belt is parallel to the floor and the belt runs from right to left AND moves up and down about 2 inches at the same time.

I just wish he would explain why he uses 1 saw rather than another sometimes.

His agenda is different from yours. He gets paid to promote products, and enjoys the luxury of having any tool he pleases. I, for one, would like to see somebody doing a show on how to build things using the tools that are more likely to be found in the shop of (and the budget of) Joe Ordinary.

I really like Norm but I agree with you. After all these years I have a pretty well equipped shop but it wouldn't fill a corner of the NYW. Some times I wonder why they don't just move that show to a furniture factory. Pat

I love Norm and watch all the shows. One of the things that gets me every time is just after he has done some complex glue up he says "don't forget to check for square." of course he actually does this occasionally and it is perfect.

OK Norm what are you supposed to do when it isnt and half the joints are nearly dry???? Why doesnt he show us that?

For Delta and Porter-Cable it's the cheapest form of advertising. Norm seems to use the latest and greatest tools. He used to use a Lamello biscuit joiner, now he is using Porter Cable. He has the ideal job, free tools, the newest and best out, must be nice.

Maybe we should all write in and ask for one. Surely even Norm must make a mistake every now and again.

I doubt he does more than 10 percent of the actual work himself. Probably has a few pros around the set who spend a couple hours setting up most of the shots and doing assembly. Nahm goes home and chugs a couple beers and takes a nap. When he returns, the "elves" have everything ready for him. Remember, too, that those shots where things don't fit, or Nahm smashes a thumb or drops a workpiece on a spinning tool or cusses and throws something, all end up on the cutting room floor. Those outtakes have gotta be priceless...

Supposedly, he does do it all himself. The only people allowed in the shop while shooting are him, the camera guy and sound guy. Rumor has it, even the producer is to stay out, because there is not a lot of room for people with all the $20K wide belt sanders, hehe. I wish I could find it, but I know I read somewhere that he builds the prototype ahead of time and then does the one for TV over two days of shooting.

Can't remember where I saw/read this but the only person in the shows that is not part of the production team is a guy that sets up the tools; ,ya know, changes blades, different router bits etc. Watching the cam's tends to support this. The only people you see are directing, shooting and sound. Of course, who really knows?

That's an oscillating edge sander. they are very common in industrial wood working. it makes perfectly straight edges.
