    Electric motor question

Delta can't or won't answer my question. Their dust collector motor is listed as 1 hp, 120v-12a. Does that mean 12 amps continously or only to start? That would make a big difference to me.

That should be the continuous rating. Starting currents are typically much higher but once the motor is going, current reverts to its continuous rating.

that's correct, the runnig current would be 12 Amps. Starting current is typically 4-10 times greater but for much less than a second and will not trip a circuit breaker that will normally handle 12 Amps.

Furthermore, it will only draw maximum running current of 12 Amps when the blower is unimpeded by flow restrictions such as long, small diameter pipe and plugged filter bags... any restrictions will reduce the current in more or less proportion to the flow rate.

Any if you have any question about actual draw, you can get an ammeter at Radio Shack for something like $20.
