I just checked the MLCS site and they have the 30 bit set - 1/4" shanks for $74.95 as a web special.

EDIT: Is there a coupon code for ordering from MLCS?

Signed up for their email and they sent coupon code good on none sale items.

Is there a better place to get starter sets that offer that kind of variety?

And no, Craftman's 4-piece "starter" set for $60 doesn't interest me. Talk about expensive!
This Whiteside set includes the 7 most commonly used profiles...bits that'll get alot of use. They're top notch American made cutters (with a couple of top ratings in comparisons to back it). They'll perform well, and last a long time. $80 shipped using the "BT310" discount with Holbren. Then you can spend the remainder of your budget on other profiles as needed.
