    The BEST Shop lubricant

    (Rather than hijack another thread)

A reminder: the BEST lubricants I have ever used are INOX and LANOX - no silicon etc. I didn't realize you could get it outside of Oz

Inox - according to the MSDS, about 50% mineral oil and parafin (wax)
Naptha (probably a carrier of the wax, evaporates, I'm guessing)
    Lithium stearate (a lubricant grease)
    some- sulphur-zinc phosphorus stuff,
antioxidants and rust inhibitors <5% and <5% teflon and a bit of red dye.
Leaves a smooth, tacky red residue it says.

Lanox has lanolin, a grease from lambs wool basically. with butane and propane propellants. Appearance - tan liquid.

    neither has silicone.

I'd be worried the Lanox would go rancid.

Lanolin is also known as wool grease, it comes from the sheep's skin, coats the wool and makes their wool water repellent. It is recovered as part of processing wool to make it into textiles. I'm not entirely sure, but I don't believe it can go rancid.

Maybe I'm just a little old fashioned, but IMO a "one lube for all" theory is not as appropriate as a recommended lube per application or "specific procedure".

            My Bad.

You're right. I went back to the website to look for what threw me and its made by Candan Industries... I read Canadian! I ignored the Aussie flags and the references to Australia.

And lanolin is the oils fom lambs wool, not lamb fat. Apparently does not go rancid, according to the previous replies.

              Footnote on "color" -

In my experience, both INOX and LANOX sprays have no discernable color (in use). I haven't tried a "pool" of either.

My kids visisted OZ aseveral years ago on a church sponsored trip. Both brought back some lip balm made with lanolin that was the best stuff I have ever used. Beat the H##L out of anything I have found in the states.

I gotta get down there one of these days.

if you want lanolin buy a sheep(cheap) sheer it a couple times a year and wring it out(the wool)

those greasy animals are full of it I raised them and sheered them for years as a 4-H project

Anhydrous lanolin is usually available in 1lb tubs from your local pharmacist. Not very expensive either.
