    Harbor freight sharpener

So after the long discussion we had here about the HF saw blade sharpener and the two trips it took to get one (because they were hidden in the store), I thought I'd post a new thread in case you had given-up on reading the previous one.

Apparently sharpening blades requires expert knowledge in splitting atoms because I'm incapable of getting a decent finish with this thing.

Now, the guy at the store said I could bring it back if it didn't meet my expectations. Problem is, that little motor and wheel look like they'd have a million other applications. There has got to be something worthwhile I could build with the parts from this abomination.

FWIW, the main problem is the diamond wheel. Too rough a finish. The next problem is, putting a finer wheel on would probably require too much work to remove enough carbide to get a blade sharpened.

Strange that the machine still feels worth $50 to me. Just not as a saw blade sharpener.

    Pass the crow, please.

Well, while I agree that sharpening probably requires expertise and great machinery, I don't blame you for trying. It sounds good, and HF has that easy return policy, so no foul. Or is that fowl? Salt and pepper?

Well...thanks for braving the waters, or I may have eventually toyed with the thing too....

Carlos, how was that knife sharpened?
Happiness is sort of like wetting your pants....everyone can see it, but only you can feel the warmth.

The thing is, I'm looking at the machine and wondering if it has the makings of a doweling machine or some sort of mortising machine. All the basic components are there, I'd just have to add an adjustable-height table with a fence and the correct spindle/bit.

I think this is the first HF POS that I won't be asking for my money back on.
