Your idea can add another improvement to those type of brackets. As they are, there is no space in the inside corner to clean glue for those that like to wipe out what oozes. Adding wood short to the corner would allow some space for that to take place.

I made these with some scrap to hold shelves during assembly a few projects ago. They work pretty good but you have to stretch the spring clamps pretty far.

I couldn't think to spend the money they ask for something so simple.

Those brackets you found are great and provide easier clamping.

Two thoughts come to mind on seeing these posts. If you are in a place that carries these braces, they most likely sell guages for right angles (squares) in the store. Pick one off the shelf, check with another one to see if they are both square if you are really fussy, and then carry the square over to precheck angle braces for squareness before you buy. In addition to these angle braces, I would think electrical boxes (metal) are **** close to square and rigid enough to use as angle braces during glue up. They typically have rounded corners for glue excess to squeeze out without coming into contact with your brace.

I've used both the picture frame clamps and the expensive ones in the topmost picture. These stanley corner brackets look like a PERFECT cross between the two!

Great tip! Plus, the Stanleys are inexpensive enough to make excellent jig parts!

              Larry,

Great tip, I'm out the door now.

I just picked up four larger shelf angle brackets from HD for $3 apiece and plan to try them out shortly. All of them had 90 degree angles as measured by a try square. They appear to be better for cabinet boxes than the smaller Stanleys. Nice thing is, if I don't like 'em, I can always return 'em.

OTOH, if they prove useful, I might need more clamps!

I just tried these on a small glue-up and they are much better than the corner clamps I was using. They're cheap, the joint is square, and I have lots of spring clamps.

came to the party a bit late

                    Larry,

I remembered you had this thread last year, but the pictures are not showing now.

Any chance you might have backup pictures to post? With a printout in hand I might put a hand on these a lot quicker.

They're just garden-variety corner braces, like these from Stanley. Mine are, in fact, Stanleys, but other brands will work as long as they're square. Also, these Stanley brackets are made from fairly thick steel. That, combined with the radius of the bend on the two flanges, leaves a more-than-adequate relief gap for glue squeeze-out at the inside corner. This can be readily seen in the photo in the first post of this thread.

Oh, goody - that's what I needed to refresh my memory. Thanks!
