is this Craftsman table saw a good buy?

This table saw was posted on a local Craigslist. Says is is 10 years old very little use and in great condition. Asking price is $100.00 dollars. Do you think it is worth that and would it be a step up from the BT3100? The model number is 228310

It IS worth $100, but it ISN'T a step up. Lateral to down depending on who you ask.
10 years old, could be either an Emerson (I doubt from the picture), or a Ryobi made.
Not as good dust collection as the BT.
Old fashioned splitter instead of a riving knife.
Looks like the Exacta fence, which was one of the better Craftsman fences.
    Looks like steel wings.
That is a good price for a starter saw, that most people I know:
    1. Add a link belt, and may upgrade to matched pulleys
    2. Upgrade the fence, to Unifence/Bies/Shopfox, etc.
    3. Replace the blade guard with one with better dust collection
    4. Keep an eye out for cast iron wings (or buy them new from Sears)
    5. Upgrade the miter gauge, build crosscut sleds, etc (smaller miter slots then a non craftsman saw by around 5 thousandths)
So you end up with cast iron (which is basically what it sounds like you want), without the benefits of a cabinet, or hybrid saw.
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

It is just fine for a 1o year old cabinet saw. $100 is a steal. I won't argue any of the points from above but that could be said for almost all cabinet saws. Add a cutoff sled and you will be in pretty good shape.

It's worth well more than $100 in parts. It should be quieter, is larger, and more stable...maybe a bit more powerful if aligned well. Things like wings and fence are easily upgradeable of those are aspects you don't like. How you like it is a matter of opinion. It'd be pretty easy to get your $100 back on it , so I'd grab it while it's available, if in good condition, and if it's got an outboard belt drive induction motor.

except its not a cabinet saw, its only a contractor saw...
I think maybe that's what you meant to say.

And that's a first, seeing a saw mounted on a set of auto/vehicle moving dollies. Shouldn't be any problem with load capacity, LOL.
