Are delrin bearings a problem in this application?

I have the famous Craftsman drill press from the infamous sale. In my small shop I need to have wheels on a lot of my equipment. I found these bearings on E-bay but I worry that the Delrin bearings will be a problem over the long run. I know that they are hard but is there a potential issue her over roller bearing wheel sets?

I think it would be fine. alot of casters that size don't have a bearing at all, they just have an axle through the rubber wheel.

I prefer ball bearings, but don't see any reason these won't work for you. Rated at 250# so they won't have any trouble with the weight of the DP.

I scanned through the store and it seems Delrin are the only bearings they use.

Definately buy them, then let me know how they work out!

I need to do the same thing.

Delrin is some really nice material. I use it often as skid bearing surfaces. I also used it to turn some lock nuts for the ball screws on one of my cnc machines. It is a step up in hardness from UHMW and every bit as slick.
It would likely do very well as bearings where you have a very dirty or very wet environment.

Does anyone know where to buy just the wheel portion? I need several 3" wheels of the type used on many of the mobile bases that are out there. But I only see them available as part of a caster, not sold as wheels only.

Delrin is hard and machines well, holds its tolerances relatively well, won't creep or cold flow under load. I don't think its as slick or has a slick, almost oily feeling like UHMW. But its probably good for wheel bushings where you won't be rolling it around continuously all day, every day.
